Never happening, even though this was naturally a joke, because not only would every apple user throw themselves off the highest mountain in Cupertino, but every Windows fanboi would jump off the steepest cliff in Redmond!

Consumer Reports says "we still think the same thing" for the third time and that's first page news? Sounds more like they're fishing for free publicity.

Anyway, when a reviewing organization "doesn't recommend" what I consider the best phone I've ever owned, it sounds more like I shouldn't bother paying attention to that reviewing organization. Their taste just isn't relevant to mine.

This is exactly what I thought when I read the OP. They stated they couldn't recommend the iPhone 4, even if it had bumpers, and now without bumpers they can't recommend it, because it won't have bumpers.

He's young. 16 if I read his other post correctly about the wedding. So his attitude towards driving is expected. I used to streetrace after I got my license and held similar disdain for autos and people driving autos (including my dad). Experience and age mellows attitudes..... sometimes.... hehe.....

That explains a lot. being 16 means he has very little real experience in driving and a pure rookie at it. The joy of driving is still in his system. Now days most of the time driving for me is a way to get from A to B.

Driving in traffic every day like i said really made me consider going Automatic. hard to do a low speed crawl in a manual.

All I want for MWSF is a new keyboard, because it's time we had some media buttons. And a paint app so that I don't have to buy Photoshop if I want to doodle something.

Lunja, people actually use media buttons? I wonder, do other people here want this? I specifically don't want it. I like the way my wireless kb looks now.

Anyway, the paint program thing is one that thousands of switchers comment on. I do rather agree that there's no good simple answer to that one. Not that Apple shouldn't just bundle something simple, but apparently one MR member went so far as to write the thing himself (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=159877&highlight=posterpaint)! :D

Microsoft's release of the Zune player, of course, has drawn a number of comparisons with Apple's iPod. With no official numbers yet available, many interested consumers are looking at other measures of comparison between the two product lines.

Several readers point to Amazon's Top Selling MP3 Player list (http://www.amazon.com/gp/bestsellers/electronics/172630/ref=pd_ts_e_nav/103-3803705-4659014) as an informal sales ranking which shows that the Zune falls in 23rd place (after reaching a peak of 6th) behind many iPods as well as MP3 players from Creative and SanDisk.

Meanwhile, one analyst surveyed (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2264) consumer electronics retail stores for comments and recommendations about the Zune player. According to their research, the iPod was recommended approximately 75% of the time, while the Zune was recommended about 8% of the time. As well, many of the quotes indicated that some sales people didn't even know what the Zune was:

"In fact, some MP3 player salespeople had not even heard of the Zune, despite the fact that they sold it in their store," he wrote.

To be fair, with the recent launch date for the Zune, such comparisons are hardly fair. After the initial launch, analysts expect (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2059178,00.asp) the Zune to build gradually, with initial marketshare coming at the expense of other MP3 manufacturers besides Apple.

Microsoft is going to put tons of money in this over time, much like they did with the Xbox" video game console, she said. "It's not about the first generation (of devices).

So I guess we won’t see any new features… Apple is busy polishing what we’ve got now…:/

Basically. Now they just need to polish what they gave us. It's honestly a lot though. I wouldn't feel ripped off for them charging money for it.

Almost all of the Applications have been enhanced, autosave, Launchpad, Mission Control, Versions, resume, Multitouch gestures, full screen apps and the Mac App Store.

    So, apparently you're old...

US will use Lybia as aerial target practice

Hey, check out this mini mushroom fireball thingie. What kind of bomb is this? It looks kind of big. Edpecially the fact that it's in the backgorund and the camera naturally makes it small. If you were up close, it's gotta be HUGE!

Yet you come across with all the maturity of an 11 year old.

but I just don't see how this is going to work.

Either the files will be *enormous* (even with H.264), requiring many hours to download even with high speed connections, and therefore costing a lot in terms of bandwidth, or they'll be crappy resolution. Either way, I don't see how it can compete with a 5 minute trip to your local video place to rent/buy a DVD.

The only way I can see this as a win is if they have some amazing catalogue of old/foreign/indi films that you can't get at your local blockbuster.

Unlike music, which most people listen to many times, most people don't watch the same movie more than two or three times, so there's no point in investing $15, many megabit-hours of bandwidth, and the blank media to burn it after you've finally downloaded it.

99 cents and a 1 minute download is a good deal, and well within the impulse-range for most people, but $15 and several hours of downloading is not.

On the other hand, Steve Jobs is a multi-billionare, and I'm just some guy with an opinion, so maybe he knows what he's doing.

    We'll see soon enough.

    Cheers

Haha so many mad fanboys. " APL Y U RUIN MY OSX"

I think its a neat trinket, deleting apps this way, but nothing major worth over analyzing.

I was under the impression an Apple fanboy is someone who applauds whatever move Apple makes to lead us into a brighter future .

Besides, the new feature doesn't delete apps, only applets, if that . ;)

Never said anything about cooperative multi-tasking.

iOS is not cooperative multi-tasking. It's fully pre-emptive.

I know it is, unfortunately, the userspace APIs don't allow 3rd party apps to profit from that. You can't just write code and hope the process scheduler will happily deal with you (as any modern, pre-emptive OS scheduler does). No matter what, your apps gets sent messages to suspend itself and the frameworks are built in a way that if you don't intercept these to "background" certain tasks using a certain limited API to do so, the defaults kick in and you get sent to oblivion.

It's pre-emptive cooperative multi-tasking if you will. It's limiting. This is a "Truck" OS. I don't need limits on truck. If I wanted limits, I'd drive a car, to use the Steve analogy. ;)

I'm talking about intelligent pre-emptive multitasking with API's that allow the Apps to make intelligent decisions removing the burden from users to "clean up" after apps they have launched but aren't using.

Apps aren't intelligent (artificial intelligence ain't quite there yet). If I have apps open, there's a reason and I want them to stay open. I'm not CPU/memory limited enough to warrant dumping these to some kind of swap space and prevented from sitting in their idle loop, waiting on their input.

Taking control away from the user is in the end dumbing down the experience. This is what most folks are afraid of with all these features.

I'm talking about Apps that are, to the user, ALWAYS instantly available in exactly the same state that they left them in.

They can only be instantly available if they stay resident in RAM. If they are swapped out, then they need to be swapped back in.

Good. The classic controls are far superior IMO when using quickly and trying not to look at it. This is the reason I will not purchase an iPod touch for use in the car.

I've used iOS since June 2007 and it had never even got close to the perfection of the click wheel. When I go on any trip of more than 100 miles, I always take my 60 GB 5th Gen iPod. For me, part of it is space - but it's mostly for I/O.

Haven't started Christmas shopping yet (unlike Surely) so I haven't got any good karma, but nevertheless picked up a new pair of jeans for myself. D'oh. :(

I haven't started yet either...... just taking advantage of this weekend's sales. :D

Also, I just bought this office chair from Office Depot:

It's ACA approved, so my back also approves.

I found a 20% off coupon online, so yay.

Griffin Reveal seems nice, plus very customizable. Switcheasy Colors, i love Switcheasy, but the silicone, I just don't like silicone. The Luxe is probably the same protection as the Griffin.

Out of the three, I would suggest the Griffin.

I am waiting for something else from Switcheasy, maybe a TRIM or Rebel.

Thanks for the input! I looked at the Iphone 4 TRIM, and I have to admit, it sounds pretty awesome. It's just a shame that I can't wait for them to release something similar for the Touch, but the Reveal seems fairly close to it.

I bought and really like the Griffin Formfit. (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/formfit-touch4g#)

P.S. It sounds like a good case for you hkim1983!

Hm, I had actually not seen this before. Does this case offer protection to the glass if it were dropped face-down? I'll keep it in mind, thanks.
